以下の文について質問です。
The first name of which a child makes conscious use may be compared to a stick by the aid of which a blind man gropes his way.
by the aid は gropes を修飾しているらしいのですが、僕にはstickを修飾しているように見えます。なぜ gropesを修飾しているのか教えていただけると嬉しいです。
